April Showers Bring… Skribit Features!

What better way to wrap up April than with a few Skribit features? Let me be the first to say that these features are just the tip of the iceberg. We have a lot planned and are happy to announce that Erik Peterson has joined the Skribit core team, which also consists of Calvin Yu and myself. Below are some of the changes in this release. You will notice the widget has undergone a few changes. As a sidenote, we plan on heavily reworking the widget so if you have any thoughts to impart, please drop us a comment.

  • Fixed some issues with widget login and registration in Safari.
  • Users can now upload an avatar, which is currently being displayed on select pages on the website and will be better integrated throughout the site in the next release.
  • Removed the description from the widget – all you have to enter now is just the suggestion.
  • Widget changes: removed the “What’s Hoppin?” banner from the widget, moved the Skribit logo to the bottom of the widget, the top of the widget now says “What should I write about”, the suggestions box has a character countdown.
  • You can now vote on the blog profile page. You can get to this page by clicking on the “# of # suggestions” link at the bottom of the widget.
Skribit Votes on Blog Profile Page

  1. Along with CSS customization I’ve mentioned before, it’d be nice for the blogger to be able to customize the top message. “What should I write about?” is a lot more clear than “What’s Hoppin?” but people may want to customize it for the tone of their site. (Also, if it’s a blog with multiple authors — say, TechCrunch — the “I” is a little awkward.) Keep up the good work!

    LOLguna Beach,

  2. 1) Add CSS classes to skribit and let the user choose how to style the widget. The green and grey clash with many blog designs.

    2) Add a vote count so users have some idea of which suggestions are the popular ones.

    3) Remove the skribit or at least make it smaller. There’s no need to have two links back to the site, you just need one small logo or a “Get this” link.

    Blake Perdue,

  3. um, my widget hasn’t updated. (shift refresh didn’t shift it) I like the changes. How can I get the new widget on my site- do I need to re-copy the code?

    titanium_geek,

  4. @Paul, your skribit widget hasn’t updated either, for me. Is it new on your page from your computer?

    titanium_geek,

  5. Nice to see a some new features, but I am not liking the widget redesign. The logo at the bottom looks too weird and sort of clashes with my design. The text change is alright, but like Blake, some customization may be helpful.

    Ronald Heft,

  6. Hey, there is a new Getsatisfaction section for skribit- here: http://getsatisfaction.com/skribit would skribit team members like to get involved?

    titanium_geek,

  7. Hey titanium_geek - we are thinking about using Satisfaction more readily. Do you like it?

    Paul Stamatiou,

  8. hey Paul, yeah, I really like Satisfaction, especially the interface and the mood meter- it’s a bit of fun but can be useful. The whole thing is very easy to use. I like how it groups things up, instead of support by email or blog comment.

PS- lots of refreshes + key combos got my site the new widget, yours still is the old one.

    titanium_geek,

  9. nice customization!
